Album well and truly launched

What a great evening we had at La Vitriola last Wednesday evening! I opened the show and also closed it with my band. In between, Alden Penner mesmerized with his solo playing, and Wider Smile made us smile and dance. Here is a photo Alden posted of us playing:

Recent recordings on Soundcloud

Here is a cover of an REM song, “Let Me In”:

And here is an original, called “Better off with Harper”. It was inspired by an ad campaign of Facebook calling on all of us who can stand for the Conservative Party of Canada to stand with them, and telling us we’re “better off” with Prime Minister Stephen Harper:

Video playlist from my Sept. 12 performance at the Yellow Door

Here is a link to the playlist from my Sept. 12 live performance. The video footage is courtesy of Yellow Door Coffeehouse host Marc Nerenberg. The videos are of excellent quality; a complication arising from this is that they take a long time to upload, so only three videos in the playlist. Another video from the show, in which I and the audience created a collective improvisation together, is also available here.

A first video from my Sept. 12 performance at the Yellow Door

On September 12, 2014, I was the featured performer at the Yellow Door Coffeehouse. Here is the first of a series of videos from that show. In it, I led a process of collective musical creation through improvisation, a technique that I learned some years ago and have developed in workshops since. This was the first time I attempted it at one of my performances. I think this idea can be developed further, but it was a good first attempt, I think. Since my songs not very well-known, and are sometimes not the easiest to follow, as they often meander off in interesting but unexpected directions, my challenge is to find ways to make the audience part of the show.

Thanks, by the way, to Yellow Door Coffeehouse Host Marc Nerenberg for very kindly editing and providing me with video footage from this show. More videos to come in the coming days!

Playing at Death of Vinyl at 6307 St Laurent, Saturday Sept 20

I will be playing a guitar with a special design on it- a fictional map on it, actually- by Shane Watt, who is a fictional mapmaker, and who produced my album Awaiting an Awakening. I will be accompanied on a drum (also with a special map on it) by Eric Bent. It should start at 5 pm. It’s all part of a music themed art show called “Artificial Palaces: A Selection of Musical Maps”
